What is a house church?

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers. Each one was seized with fear, and many miracles and signs were done by the apostles. sold their property and possessions and distributed them to all according to every need, and they came together in the temple every day, at home they broke bread and ate together, and rejoicing and sincere in heart they praised God and had the favor of all the people. every day some more who were saved "(Acts 2: 42-47.

The original church was a house church. A house church is a community of Christians who meet in a private home and live their Christian faith together. The idea of church buildings of stone and paid priests holding services on Sundays (as well as the idea of people who just come and attend an event on Sundays and then go home) - has only come to much later in history.

The Acts of the Apostles describe what original Christianity looked like. In this original church, there was a lot of community - " they were common about everything ". They supported each other financially when needed. They met almost daily and also shared meals together in the homes.

Christians were people who stood out from the rest of society, in fact living out the commandment of charity. It was also a community centered around worshiping and praising God together - " They praised God with a sincere and rejoicing heart ". People around them, neighbors and friends etc. said WOW !! - " they had the utmost of the whole people " - and there were many who constantly joined them, to live out a sincere Christian faith, in a sincere Christian community.
